To the editor,

Republicans Senators are preventing a debate on the Safe Climate Act by requiring the reading of the entire legislation and filibustering.  This is an act of climate terrorism, likely contributing to the deaths of billions of people this century.

Those finding such comments strong need to re-educate themselves on the very latest findings, released in the last few months and year.  We are not talking about just a few degrees warming, but the potential of 20 degrees warming as was seen 55 million years ago.

We are increasing greenhouse gas emissions far faster than the events that lead up to the super-hot Greenhouse Earth conditions 55 million years ago when the Arctic and Antarctic regions were tropical and most of the rest of the planet was a desolate desert wasteland.

This is not science fiction.  These are the predictions of top NASA Scientists like James Hansen who warn about passing tipping points in which natural warming mechanisms kick in, sky-rocketing the planet’s temperatures.  Scientists like Sir James Lovelock warn that billions of people will die this century if we continue with business as usual.

At the very least, we need some debate in Congress.  Republicans know they have lost the debate.  Senator George Voinovich told me personally in front of hundreds of people and media that he was not debating the science of global warming.  So why is he against a debate in Washington on the most critical bill in our nation’s history for the survival of humanity and all life on our planet?

Call your Senators at 202-224-3121 (the Capital Switchboard) and go to www.safeclimateact.org to learn more and take action.  Even with the filibuster seeming to have stopped the legislation for the moment, keep calling and demand that Senators hold up everything else until this passes: it is that important.  What else matters if the whole planet is burning?

Sincerely,

Chad Kister
